<img src="http://wpharvestcenter.org/images/26Feb2012audiencephoto.jpg" alt="workshop audience" />
The workshop was well received by the 90+ attendees. We've laid the groundwork for an incredible community effort to produce local food in our high altitude gardens.
The <a href="http://www.wpharvestcenter.org/workshops/Seeds4HighAltitudeGardens/" title="Seed Sources and Selections" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Seed Sources and Selections</a> portion of the workshop is available.

A pdf file containing a list of seed sources, our recommendations and link to an incredible online resource for garden planing is available for <a href="http://www.wpharvestcenter.org/workshops/Seeds4HighAltitudeGardens/2012_seed_list_and_sources.pdf" title="Seed sources, seed suggestions, and online garden planning" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">download</a>.

Gardening is a demanding hobby, what seems like a slow and effortless daily routine is actually a very serious thing, demanding that the gardener knows what he is doing, when he is doing it and what is the overall plan. Normal people have a hard time understanding why gardeners bother, but the passion with gardens surpasses other people ideas and this is exactly why some of us choose to expand the gardening activity even further.

Our first year growing in the dome was 2009. We were amazed that we actually were able to grow 96 pounds of wonderful produce for the Community Cupboard. As the following graph indicates, we're improving our production rates each year. We may have reached our peak because there's limited space in our dome... looking forward to 2012 results. <a href="http://wpharvestcenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/2010-2011-Dome-Production.png" title="2010-2011 dome production" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">graph</a>

I thank Hackman House for acquainting me to this group. I'm very interested in eating healthy foods for the body. We are now approaching our food intake from the Paleo way of eating. To feel good is not only a happy attitude but comes with a healthy, happy body. :-)

Hi,

Thank you for representing a group that supports sustainable food in the Colorado Springs area.I met you in a UCCS nutrition class.

Here's some information concerning Food Day, October 24th, a nation wide celebration. Please consider how the The Harvest Center could be part of this effort in the Springs area by hosting one or more events in October in promotion of sustainable food. Your "event(s)" do not need to be on Monday, October 24th, but anytime during the month. Please post any "events" that you would like to on the web site,http://foodday.org/, under the "participate" category so that the Harvest Center is on the "map" so that people can find out how to attend on the web.

Is your last Farmers’ Market is Sep 30th? Weather permitting, that would be a fine event to include for “Food Day!”

Also, if you want to recommend any other possible groups who would support this cause, please let me know!
Please send me your email so that I can forward you a flyer!

Thank you!

Day one was great! Although we would not have objected to a good ground soaking rain, we appreciated the beautiful sunny day which made the tour easy to enjoy. The usual "where in the world is this place... my gps and google are failing me" situations happened. Thanks to all of you who showed your gardens and those of you who took the tour!

We'll be posting photos of the gardens and greenhouses soon. Meanwhile, there's one day left for the tour. See you Sunday.
