Covered raised beds are used extensively by high altitude gardeners. Our plants need protection from cold, wind, hail, and deer. The typically raised bed is 4 ft wide, 8 ft long and 1 ft high. Hooped frames made of 1/2 in by 10 ft PVC and 1 in x 2 in furring strips are made to support 6 mil plastic or shade cloth.
Our workshops cover season extenders with an emphasis on raised beds. This web version of our raised bed workshop presents details for constructing a 4′x8′ bed. Detailed instructions are available in this pdf file
